As a professional musician with the Royal Air Force and a Willson Performing Artist, Michael Howley is in great demand worldwide as a euphonium soloist, conductor and teacher. Educated at the Royal Northern College of Music, Mike has performed with ensembles from the Halle Orchestra to Folk superstars Kate Rusby, Phil Cunningham and John McCusker, and in venues from Birmingham’s Symphony Hall to the Sydney Opera House.
During a career spanning three decades, Mike has held the position of Principal Euphonium with the Yorkshire Building Society Band, Brighouse and Rastrick and The Desford Colliery Band. In 2019 he achieved a lifetime ambition when he performed as principal Euphonium with the Grimethorpe Colliery Band for their appearance at the Yorkshire Area Contest.
Mike has a long-standing relationship with the Concord Band of Denmark. In 2010 he conducted the Danish Champions in the European Brass Band Festival, giving excellent performances of Spiriti by Thomas Doss and Philip Sparke’s Music of The Spheres.
A keen sportsman, Mike represents RAF College Cranwell at Golf, Cricket and Basketball. A Yorkshireman by birth, he now resides in Lincolnshire with his wife Sally, daughter Emily and son William.
