London qualifiers opt for Ian McElligott to lead them into Grand Shield battle.

Thoresby Colliery has announced that it will join forces with Ian McElligott for their assault on the Grand Shield in Blackpool in May.

The band recently qualified for the National Finals and told 4BR that it intends to build on that success.

Changes at Thoresby

Thoresby Colliery Band announces that it is to team up with Ian Porthouse ahead of its 2011 Area Competition in March.

The band is absolutely delighted that it has the opportunity to work with such an accomplished conductor on this year's area test piece "Paganini Variations" by Philip Wilby.

As 2011 gets underway there are a number of changes at Thoresby Colliery.

Goodbye

Unfortunately the band said goodbye to solo baritone Dave Buckley after almost 20 years of paying with the band. Dave has recently become a father for the second time and has taken on new responsibilities at work so has decided to take a much earned break.

Thoresby get 'big end' replacements

Following the award of £10,000 towards their instrument replacement project, the Thoresby Band's 'big end' eagerly awaits the arrival of four brand new tubas.


Bridging the gap

The grant has been generously given by the Coalfields Regeneration Trust (CRT), as part of their "Bridging the Gap" scheme.

The CRT is an independent charity dedicated to changing the face of coalfields communities across the UK through supporting their social and economic regeneration.
