Thoresby Colliery Band announces that it is to team up with Ian Porthouse ahead of its 2011 Area Competition in March.
The band is absolutely delighted that it has the opportunity to work with such an accomplished conductor on this year's area test piece "Paganini Variations" by Philip Wilby.
Ian will be preparing the band and conducting them at the forthcoming area Championships to be held in Bedworth in March. Rehearsals will be commencing very soon and the band intends to build on the work that they have already put into the piece last year.Band manager Nick Harris says "Thoresby is such a dedicated and hardworking band and an opportunity like this is well deserved. I know 2011 is going to be a great year for the band and it has already started with the band's best result at Butlins in recent years earlier in January. With Ian working together with resident Huw Thomas we have a great conducting team in place and many fine players round the stand. The band also has an invitation to attend the All England Masters International in May which is another great step forward and is testament to the band's dedication and ambition".
